The following testimonials came from patients or family members:

"For many months, this organization provided care and medication for my wife after she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. It is impossible for me to remember, or even to know, all that OSF Hospice did for her. The Hospice staff was there and available at every hour of the day or night. I wish to also thank the people of the staff whom you can meet by visiting their office. There are nurses and aides who serve the terminally ill. There are the people who do the office work - all are superb, caring folks. Then there are the unknown, the unheralded, who make Hospice possible. The people who give the money Hospice needs. Though I don't know you - I thank you. Delta County has good news - however it is seldom told. You who give to Hospice are good news - you may be unknown and un-thanked - but I thank you for making Hospice possible. God will and only God can reward. Thank you Hospice."

"Our family wishes to publicly recognize the staff of OSF Hospice for the wonderful care our father received during the last six months of his life. Our father's last wish after finding out his cancer was terminal was to die at home. That wish was fulfilled by his family, but would have been impossible if it had not been for the Hospice organization. Everything our father needed was provided free of charge. Each day his needs were evaluated and appropriate care given based on those needs. We could call the staff day or night for assistance and if there were things we could not do, they would do them for us. Arrangements were made for a hospital bed, oxygen, pain medications - including injections, but most importantly, we watched the staff meet his needs with tender loving care. His feelings and fears were respected at all times. If this same situation were to arise again in our family, we would not hesitate to call upon the Hospice organization for help and support. Thank you Hospice for the way you helped our father die at home with dignity, surrounded by the people who loved him."

"I became acquainted with OSF Hospice as I had been caring for my mother after her lung cancer had spread. She was no longer the vital woman I had known. She was dying. I was faced with the terrible task of making decisions with her, and at times for her, which would determine how her last days were spent. I was so concerned that I couldn't handle the responsibility I held as her caregiver. What if I hurt her? What if I made a mistake? Then I met the team at OSF Hospice. Their caring manner, patient instruction and constant reassurance helped me to realize I could do it. Who better to care for her in her hour of need than someone who had been the recipient of her love, support and nurturing? The challenge my beloved mother was facing was more than mine would ever be in caring for her. Because of the help from OSF Hospice, I was able to allow my mother to live her last days in the security of the home where she had lived and loved for nearly 40 years. Home, where she felt the most comfortable. Home, where she taught me about caring for others, the importance of right and wrong and the strength of family. Without OSF Hospice, I would never have had the confidence to care for my mother. My mother would have lived her final weeks with strangers caring for her. Mom had me full-time and OSF Hospice was there every time we needed them. She was at peace that there would be no prolonged suffering. She would die at the God chosen moment, surrounded by loved ones, in her home with the caring net that OSF Hospice provided to all of us."

"My family and I can never say enough good things about your organization. The care, the help, the people - everything and everyone were very special! Marci Anderson, our hospice nurse, was wonderful; taking phone calls at strange hours, assuring us, just being there - she made it so much easier. Most of all, Cliff died where he wanted to be - at home with his kids, grandson and me - at peace and comfortable. If you ever need to tell the world how wonderful you are - here we are!"

"Just a quick note to thank you once again for the tender, professional care you provided for my mother. Over the past few years, as her heart grew weaker, we were very concerned for both her and Dad's well-being and worried about his ability to cope with all the related stress as a result of Mom's decline and his efforts to provide care, especially when I live over an hour away.

Dad and I weren't totally certain that hospice service would be the correct route for Mom, but after a lengthy, compassionate discussion with Dr. Doetch, we felt confident that hospice would be the best course of action. It turned out better than we could have ever hoped.

During the first visit in April, Julie set a program in motion which helped a very weak patient gain strength and enough stamina to enjoy the summer when it looked as if she would not make it much beyond Easter. We knew after that first visit that we had made the right choice. She was given a dignified, improved quality of life which allowed her to take pleasure in the company of her friends and family for a little longer. The entire staff made those extra months special for Mom and her family.

When the end came and I called the triage nurse to report that Mom had taken her last breath, I was told that a nurse would be there shortly. I then got a call from Julie telling me that she would be the one coming over to take care of Mom. I don't believe she was the nurse on call that night, but she came anyway; a real tribute to her professionalism, dedication and personality. She was to the very end a significant help to us during a difficult time. None of us will ever forget her and the empathy she bestowed. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!"

"I am married to one of your Home Care patients. A little over six months ago, we were at home in Pekin watching television when she came out of the bathroom and collapsed. She was rushed to Pekin Hospital but they transferred her to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center where the unbelievable and legendary expertise of your Neurology Department saved her life even though she had suffered two brainstem strokes.

After being treated and released from Neurology Critical Care, she went to the Rehab floor; it is here that I first became acquainted and astounded with Rehab nurses and therapists.

I must divert for just a moment to explain my last statement. My entire adult working career has been spent in the business world where the one single incident that makes us ecstatic is when one of us sells a multi-million dollar contract to some company. Imagine my total disbelief and bewilderment when I catch sight of St. Francis' Rehab nurses and therapists getting just as elated - if not more - when one of their patients gains another change-for-the-better. It took me several weeks to reconcile and comprehend the selfless actions I witness everyday from everyone at St. Francis. Just image, all of you are delighted when a patient improves; the business-world million dollar contracts unmistakably pale by comparison.

She is so privileged to be receiving St. Francis in-home therapy. I constantly see intense feelings of delight and compassion from the nurses and therapists when she takes another step forward. I continue to look on in astonishment, appreciation and thankfulness that you are taking care of her and without the benefit of one single million dollar contract. I remain eternally indebted."
