Environmental and Mobility Safety
  • Avoid use of throw rugs. If you must use throw rugs, they should have rubberized, skid-proof backing.
  • Always climb stairs slowly and use handrails.
  • Keep stairs clear of all loose items.
  • Furniture should be arranged to provide clear pathways.
  • Floor surfaces should be free of clutter, wipe up spills immediately.
  • Always use night-lights and adequate lighting.
  • Inspect carpeting and flooring for loose edges which may cause tripping.
  • Always follow specific instructions for the use of assistive equipment such as walker, cane, or wheelchair.
