Disaster and Emergency PreparednessPlan how to move patient to a
safe area if safety is threatened.
Move equipment to safety that is
health or life supporting (oxygen, suction, dressing, supplies,
medications, IV pumps).
Keep a list of disaster / emergency
phone numbers readily available.
Know how to use back up batteries and
manual back up systems of all medical equipment, if no electricity is
available.
Know tornado safety precautions if a
warning is issued:
- Move to a pre-designated sheltered
area such as basement, interior room, or hallway on the lowest
floor.
- Get under a sturdy piece of
furniture.
- Stay away from windows
- Listen to radio or television for
information
Keep emergency supplies on hand:
- Flashlight
- Portable radio
- Canned foods and bottled water,
medicines and medical supplies
