| What Is Hospice?
Hospice is a concept of caring developed from
medieval times, symbolizing a place where travelers, pilgrims, the sick,
wounded or dying could find rest and comfort.
Today, hospice is a concept of care given to
patients making life’s last journey. Hospice is a way
of caring, where people of all ages are helped to live their last days
as they desire, in an atmosphere of loving kindness.
We concentrate on comfort and quality of life
through professional medical care and sophisticated symptom relief. Our
hospice nurses are trained in pain management and symptom control. The
patient and family are both included in the care plan and physical,
emotional, and spiritual support is given surrounding this difficult
stage of life.
For people making a decision to spend their last
months at home or in a home-like setting surrounded by loved ones,
hospice provides the specialized end of life care patients and families
most desire.
We are Medicare certified,
Joint Commission
accredited, member of Illinois State Hospice Organization and a member
of the National Hospice
and Palliative Care Organization.
Who is Hospice For?
Hospice is provided to patients who have a limited
life expectancy, with a prognosis of six months or less. The patient has
opted not to pursue further curative or life prolonging treatment and
instead is focused on palliative treatment or comfort measures.
Anyone diagnosed with a terminal illness can be
eligible for hospice. It is not just for cancer, but also for end-stage
heart and lung disease, kidney failure, AIDs, Alzheimer's, etc.
Hospice is for patients of all ages.
